Bruce has accumulated a wide breadth of experience working with both small and large clients, technology startups, and non-profit organizations. He has worked in marketing and digital media, video production, online television, sales and business development, partnership development, strategic planning, and he is the author of over a dozen books, both fiction and non-fiction, a media producer, screenwriter, and he serves on the board of an international non-profit, The International Sustainable Resilience Center. He has also done presentations at Digimarcon events over the years, and in the past appeared on many industry panels while working in online media technology.
Bruce began teaching marketing best practices to small businesses beginning in 2010 and continuing through 2016, holding monthly workshops at the local Chamber of Commerce in Conroe, Texas. Through that experience, Bruce gained insight into specific business models commonly found in any small town or local community.
Bruce quickly learned that while he was trying to teach small business owners and independent sales agents how to market their businesses, the wide variety of businesses coming to his workshops forced him to customize his advice. As soon as he covered the topic for the day, his workshops turned into one-on-one consulting for individual business owners and sales reps attending the workshop. There was never enough time to answer all their questions or teach them everything he knew about marketing. While attendees to his workshops did learn a lot about modern, digital marketing practices, most did not learn what they were looking for: How to Market their Business!
One day after he had stopped doing workshops at the local Chamber of Commerce, Bruce remarked to a colleague that what those small businesses were looking for was "A Marketing Plan on a Silver Platter."
He later said the idea stuck in his mind. It seemed doable, but there were other challenges. Bruce realized he needed to create a set of simple, campaigns based on common marketing goals, pre-designed with a clear objective to achieve specific conversions, with defined outcome metrics (KPIs). After designing a list of 15 Basic Campaigns under five common marketing goals focused on stages in the Customer Journey, Bruce organized the different business models he had worked with over the years into six simple categories that shared common marketing challenges and business structures. Then he added the third part of the formula, customized strategies for specific business models organized under the six main businesses categories, which he called Quick Star Marketing Strategies.
Finally, in 2024 he began developing marketing courses designed to teach small and medium size business owners how to market their businesses using his short courses on key topics for 20 common local business models which are included in Bizperity's Quick Start Marketing Strategies. These strategies are explained in our workshops and are also included in an eBook you can download when you take one of our workshops. There was one more thing Bruce needed to deliver his solution to small business owners and independent sales reps. A simple, easy to use marketing system assessment. He knew what it should look like and the criteria it should include. With a further bit of inspiration from the Baldridge Criteria, Bruce designed the Marketing System Level Assessment with four levels of maturity based on six simple sets of marketing criteria.
